The tune comes from The Revivalist, a hymnal edited by Joseph Hillman, 1868. It is listed as ‘an old tune noted by Rev. A. C. Rose’. The text comes from John Rippon’s  A Selection of Hymns 1787,the author referred to as simply ‘K__’  This was likely Robert Keen who was a precentor in Rippon’s church.
